Daily Crap 2008-01-12

  1. “Should array indices start at 0 or 1? My compromise of 0.5 was rejected without, I thought, proper consideration.” – Stan Kelly-Bootle
  2. LaTeX syntax is crappy but it can be translated into very good-looking documents. troff and -ms syntax is crappy, but its output is crappy too. It's in the Plan 9 Kool-Aid, though, so I've got to try it.
  3. "Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are – by definition – not smart enough to debug it.” – Brian Kernighan. I had to quite it; he's one of our own.
  4. “You can either have software quality or you can have pointer arithmetic, but you cannot have both at the same time.” – Bertrand Meyer.
  5. By the way, I'm just raping 101 Great Computer Programming Quotes for today's crap.
