Tom Says: Safe code is boring code!
This January, I posted a 12-minute video on web design that shows, from (nearly) start to finish, my process when putting together a web design. I used Photoshop to put together a little mock-up, gvim for editing the HTML directly, and Firefox for previewing. I gave the link to one person (who, interestingly, went on to use Dreamweaver instead), but the video became a minute success: as of this writing, May 17, it has seen 118 views and there have been 7 downloads. In other words, about 6% of viewers decided it was interesting enough to keep.
Because I didn't originally intend for the video to be seen, I find the numbers interesting. I think it means that there must still be a lot of room for educational materials targeting people who want to get started in web design. Otherwise, why would people waste time with such a crappy video? You can hardly even read the code. (E-mail me if you're interested in a version you can read.)
